Welcome to the 2021 Great R’Idaho Trail #4. With some expert riders maxing out the original GRIT3, we not only upgraded the GRIT3, but we have created a new middle Idaho giant loop for your abuse/entertainment. The main route is more difficult/expert than GRIT#3 because that is what the trails are like here in middle Idaho for a through route. So it is designed for expert only expedition riders and the GPX files are only provided upon request for expedition finishers or known experts. To request GPX tracks, email: Joe@ridaho.info
The main route has 397 trail miles in 5 stages (60 more than GRIT3 main route) with 73 special test trail miles. So essentially the required special tests for True GRIT finish are built into the main route and no additional special tests are required for True GRIT Finisher Certification. Special Tests are still provide an opportunity to makeup for lost trail miles, or upgrade fun/challenge. The main route has the benefit of only requiring 100 miles of gas range so your bike can run a smaller tank to take on the expert trails. But don’t expect much rest road riding on this loop even on the standard route. You will only be on roads about 25% of the time.
The layout makes it plausible to ride from motel to motel on each stage in a day, But to maximize trail miles and accommodate scheduling issues, a camp-and-roll style of attack is recommended for more likely success on this route.
For the few Radical expedition experts out there, the GRIT4 intersects with GRIT3 at Lowman. That enables a 10 stage RAD GRIT challenge by combining GRIT3 and GRIT4 in a figure 8 for a potential goal of 1000 miles of Idaho single track if maxed out.
