HERE is my Google Docs packing list with weights from a 2013, 1500 mile Trek. It includes everything I added to my basic bike and naked body. It is a reference point to help your thought process on how to make your gear light while “what if” planning. It has works well for me, and I have changed very little since. But of course it cannot handle all situations and I have not had to use some things. You need to think about the risk (probability times consequence) versus weight trade off for each item. Then research smaller/lighter solutions when you can. Sometimes you can remove an item with better knowledge. The most common mistake people make is that they over-pack. But…This is a very personal decision and there are no perfect kits. For example, my “minimalist” sleep kit could be replaced with an emergency Bivi and the ground.  Also, I did not have any flat repair kit weight because I use Bib Mousse tubes for Trekking.  Everything is a trade-off so it all depends on the risk/weight/reward that you perceive.

By comparison,  below is what Neduro took for a 2009 six week dual sport ride through Mexico that included a few thousand miles of dirt ridden at speed, and a few thousand miles of road ridden at speed, and a few thousand miles of freeway, getting there and back based on the ADV thread here:
